Question #3:

Emotional channeling techniques must be used wisely and mindfully to support our clients’/students’ pursuit of worthwhile goals. We can make a situation worse for clients/students and/or cause greater emotional harm if we select the wrong emotional channeling technique or we do not teach a specific technique properly.

That said, one of the more advanced techniques, from the 16 outlined in the CEMP manual, is Consequential Analysis. This technique considers the twin motivators of human behavior… pain and pleasure and focuses on pain as the primary strategy to empower success.

THE ESSAY:

Part 1
of the essay: Demonstrate how Consequential Analysis can be used to make a clients’/students’ situation worse – the antithesis of the desired result that emotional channeling techniques seek. Be specific and clearly demonstrate the problem (a client’s/student’s fear or adversity while conducting a job search) – and how a Certified Empowerment & Motivational Professional (CEMP) can make the emotional responses to the situation worse – dangerously so, by using Consequential Analysis.

Question #5:

Directions:
In the CEMP course manual, we discuss the 3 key components for successful emotional channeling. They are:

  • o Awareness: The greatest gift human beings have
  • o Decision-making: The greatest skill human beings have
  • o Taking massive action: The spark that ignites all success
  • THE ESSAY: Write an essay describing how you would coach a job search client, who was NOT getting the results he/she was seeking. What strategies would you incorporate to heighten their awareness so they, as a result of this new level of awareness, would be able to make better decisions to inspire massive action – that otherwise would not be taken.

An example might be a job seeker who is still unemployed after 3 months of trying to land a job in a full employment job market. He hires you as his job coach to help him get out of his funk and into a new job. You determine that this job seeker has been using just one strategy to land a job – responding to job board postings. In this case, you might use specific empowerment strategies to enlighten your client/student to become “aware” of other methods of landing good jobs quickly, such as networking, recruiters and staffing firms, and target marketing so they make better decisions to alter their strategy and alter their outcome. In this case, you might integrate a few principles of success, perhaps discipline, taking personal responsibility, and taking more positive action. And maybe you would include a couple of channeling techniques so he will take massive action once he has made better decisions, knowing that even the best of strategies will meet resistance and adversity. Assignment follows on next page: Page5

1) Identify a job seeker’s barrier (or barriers) to success ➢ Examples might include: Relationship and/or family issues; health or finance challenges; need-to-transition-to-a-new-career problem; or any significant obstacle(s) causing a job seeker to unnecessarily prolong his/her job campaign.

2) Write an essay on how you would incorporate the concepts of 1) Awareness, 2) Decision-making, and 3) Taking massive action as communal (shared) strategies to empower a job seeker who was struggling in his/her job search. Be specific and precise when including the strategies and tactics you would use.
