Course Description

This course incorporates caring science to establish a strong theoretical foundation in health promotion, wellness preservation and maintenance of function across the health-illness continuum with clients: the individual, family, and community. Epidemiological, social, and environmental data will be used to evaluate populations regarding the health status of client populations. A holistic, multidisciplinary plan of care will be examined to address health promotion and disease prevention need of populations. Public policy, regulatory and legislative influence in public and private arenas will be explored and opportunity to promote and preserve healthy communities will be discussed.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Discuss theoretical foundations pertinent to health promotion, wellness preservation and maintenance of function across the health-illness continuum. (PLO 1, 3)                                                       
  2. Identify core documents and objectives for health promotion in the United States. (PLO 7, 9)
  3. Define Telehealth as a method for enhancing healthcare delivery and health promotion education using telecommunication technologies. (PLO 1, 6)
  4. Demonstrate the ability to develop a holistic plan of care incorporating Telehealth, defining assessment and intervention of specific population incorporating unique attributes of populations for health promotion, wellness preservation and maintenance of function across the health-illness continuum. (PLO 2, 8)
  5. Analyze evidence, relationships, and organizational structure to identified population based needs. (PLO 1, 7)
  6. Synthesize evidence, relationships, organizational structures, and populations to develop plan of care. (PLO 4, 5)
  7. Evaluate evidence, relationships, organizational structures, and populations to develop plan of care incorporating current appropriate technology  (PLO 7, 9)
